I don't have anything on deck yet but we'll see. That's kind of the constant background thing for me. Some of that was displacing my wanderlust. Q: What did you do to occupy yourself during that time?Ī: I did a lot of camping, hiking and other outdoor stuff. We spent the time like everyone else, just watching the news in fear. We were getting ready to do that and then everything started to get scarier and scarier, and then the rug kind of got pulled out from underneath us. From there they launched into "Nice To Know You" a song from their latest release "Morning View" and one of the many tunes that featured the hip-hop scratching of DJ Kilmore.A: We had a whole summer tour lined up that we were excited to do. Incubus opened with "Circles" as lead singer Brandon Boyd hopped around the stage and Mike Einziger's heavy guitar riffs laid the foundation for a driving funk-metal sound. And this soft side surfaced on the large screen that served as the band's backdrop displayed such soothing images as tropical fish swimming in the sea, beautiful landscapes and shooting stars. Their 90-minute set featured plenty of the heavy metal sound that's favored by so many bands these days, but it also included gentle melodic ballads, trippy sound effects and uplifting lyrics.
If anything, the quintet from Calabasas, Calif., seemed determined to prove that, unlike their angry testosterone-fueled musical peers, they are a bunch of sensitive guys in touch with their emotions. You would expect a band named after a mythical nighttime demon and which is an alumni of Ozzfest to be a menacing live act, but when Incubus took the stage at the Mullins Center at the University of Massachusetts in AmherstTuesday night, that was hardly the case.
